alley t asked:
i plan on being an equine vet, and i actually dont care about the money, i would be happy at 40 cents a week, as long as the horse/other animal gets better.
im asking because my grandpa said that they get payed alot of money.
i plan on being a kind of vet that’ll go to farm calls, and the racetrack. thank you everyone!

If you build a good reputation amongst the equine community, your value will go up. Most notible vets receive an annual income of 6 figures.

I have a fantastic vet. She’s been practicing for 4 years, mostly racetrack but also farm calls and clinic work.
She currently makes $55,000.
For 8 years of college, 25 years of real horse experience, and a non-stop schedule always on call, that ain’t much!! Sure, if you practice in a big city, you’ll make more… but only because your cost of living will be huge.
The only way to make big bucks as a vet is to own your own business, with all the business crap that entails. Staffing, bookkeeping, payroll, ordering supplies, customer relations, etc., etc., etc., - untill you get big, you have to do all that stuff yourself, and if you’re not good at it you won’t get big. Plus, it costs hundreds of thousands to set up your own practice.
It’s a noble calling… just go into it with your eyes open.
