I live in the US; I have 7 ferrets and 4 cats. I’d like to microchip all of them.

_________________________________________________________________

It seems like a straightforward procedure—no worse than some of the vaccinations my husband administered to his dogs in the past. I don’t have any veterinary background, but I’d like to take care of this myself—and help my mom and other friends take care of this.

Can a veterinarian tell me whether this is unwise or if I should get some type of “on the job” training?
Additional information: I’ve found a reputable company that does not require any degrees or licenses for me to purchase the supplies. Thus, I could have everything I need to update the chip (enter all information) and register it to me and my pets.

Also, my reasons for desiring microchipping: it’s more reliable than a collar and shelters are able to reunite run-aways more often, if a pet is microchipped. I’ve already had 2 ferrets escape (a year apart) and I’ve been *very* lucky to get both of them back!

I want to be a veterinarian and i’ve been doing a lot of research on the job! I’m not old enough to be one yet but i’m just curious to know what are the chances of me being a very successful veterinarian? I get straight A’s on my report cards and i’m very very patient!

Why do breeders insist on giving their clients medical advice if they don’t have a medical degree? And why don’t the clients just go to the veterinarian to have the puppy checked and find out what they need to do to keep the puppy healthy?
Veterinarians are doctors, equivelant to human doctors.

for veterinarians?
I know that vet’s make more money if they are in “private practice”. What is private practice?
so would I have to buy a building and start my own vet hospital or something??

Are they respected as much as human doctors are (are they considered doctors?) What is the average begining salary? Would you do this job if given the opportunity? how long is schooling? i get a’s, b’s and c’s in school so can i get into Vet school with those grades (im trying my junior yr. to get all A’s).

I’ve just got two dwarf bunnies :) They are still young, 8 weeks to be exact.

But I was talking to vets about getting them done when they are older.

The vets in my area don’t seem to have my practice with Rabbits - one said “why would you want to do that?”

The other said $100 for each boy, but they don’t do females because they are too trickey :S

Should I be a tad worried?
I’m in NZ. I suspect it would be a bit easier if I lived in America, but NZ is a bit smaller..

I am hoping to become a veterinarian later in life.
I am currently attending High School in Illinois.
If anyone can answer at least some of these questions, that would be great.
Thanks in advance, i appreciate it!

+What is the average Vet. salary for 2006 & is it expecting to increase or decrease in the next 5 to10 years?
+How many more years of schooling will i need after high school?
+What colleges/univ. would you recommend in or around Illinois?
+How many different types/fields are there?
+Is the employment rate & need of veterinarians increasing or decreasing in America right now?
+What subjects should i focus on the most during my years in high school?

It seems to me that over the years that veterinarians are making a whole lot more procedures and products either “important” or “highly recommended” than in the past, and there seems to be an implication that if you cared for your pet you would pay more to “upgrade” in a sense to these options.

Is it my imagination or are others getting told about lots of (expensive) extras from their vets? **** to be a cynic when it comes to my pet care providers, but wonder if this reflects more marketing and “upselling” than real pet care….?

and how to make one. I have a working interview tomorrow and the last time I worked at a vets was a year ago. I pretty much remember but I want to make sure just in case they tell me to make one. Also other tips on things I should know or what I can do that will impress the vets? - I know all the basic stuff and they know I am a pre-vet major with little training, but I want to show I have been studying (which I have) . . .
